It is not without coincidence that this Eagle gives its name to the Bateleur Camp. Just as the Kruger Park provides a safe haven for the Bateleur Eagle, so the bush atmosphere of Bateleur Camp will uplift your spirits and restore your soul, far from the frenetic pace of life in the city.
Accommodation & Lodging Guide:
Classed as ’Family Cottages’, Bateleur Camp was built in the late 1980’s and consists of 7 fully equipped chalets. Many of the bedrooms at this Kruger Park camp have en-suite bathrooms and each bedroom is either air-conditioned or has a ceiling fan. All accommodation units at Bateleur Camp are serviced daily and supplied with bedding, towels and soap.
There are barbecue facilities at each cottage and at the recreation centre. Wood can be bought in this Kruger Park camp. Each acommodation unit also has its own electricity points. Open parking is available at Bateleur Camp.
Bateleur Camp offers many attractions such as a game-viewing hide that overlooks a waterhole just outside the camp. Night drives enable you to take part in the nightlife of Kruger Park’s nocturnal creatures, in the company of experienced transportation guides and trackers.
Two dams, Silvervis and Rooibosrand are within close range of Bateleur Camp and are restricted to the residents of Bateleur. Silvervis boasts a large variety of birdlife, as well as other wildlife such as Hippopotamus, Crocodiles, Bushbuck and Nyala.
The birdlife includes African Spoonbill, Yellowbilled Stork and African Fish Eagle, Whitefaced Duck and Knobbilled Duck as well as the Greenshank. Bateleur Camp is private, meaning only residents are allowed in this Kruger Park camp and on the access roads to Bateleur Camp. Each of these smaller camps are situated within easy reach of the larger rest camps so that guests can make use of the larger camps’ amenities if needed.
Bateleur is one of the smallest bushveld camps in the park and only has a mini shop for the basic items such as firewood, ice and Telkom phone cards, there are no foodstuffs such as meat available. Shingwedzi is about 40 km away and has a restaurant, cafeteria and a fully stocked shop with fresh produce and meat

All units at Bateleur’s safari accommodation in Kruger Park is serviced daily and supplied with bedding, towels and soap.
Attractions at this Kruger National Park camp include barbecue facilities at each cottage and at the recreation centre. Wood can be bought in the camp. Each of the units also has its own electricity points and TVs that broadcast SABC 1,2,3 and E-TV. Open parking is available.
A conference room can accommodate 34 delegates for workshops or team building exercises at Bateleur’s safari lodging. Available equipment include projection screen, flip chart, white board, TV, video recorder, overhead projector and slide projector (carousel).
A reed-enclosed boma adjoins the conference room. The boma is complete with barbeque facilities and bread oven where one can enjoy the Kruger Park nightlife and atmosphere. Paraffin lamps at Bateleur’s safari accommodation in Kruger Park enhance the mellow vibe of the boma at night.

Bateleur Camp forms part of a relatively new concept in bush lodges in the Kruger National Park where smaller, more luxurious camps are built in the more remote areas of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Bateleur Camp is a private camp, meaning only residents are allowed in Bateleur camp and on the access roads to the camp. Each of these smaller camps are situated within easy reach of the larger rest camps so that guests can make use of the larger camps’ amenities if needed.
Bateleur Camp is located in the Northern Mopane and Bushwillow Savannah Woodlands of the Kruger National Park in South Africa, it is approximately 40km (24.8 miles) south west of Shingwedzi.
Bateleur Camp’s closest entrance gate is at Punda Maria, about 125km (77.6 miles) to the north. Alternative entrance gates are at Pafuri 162km (100.6 miles) away and Phalaborwa, 190km (118 miles) south. The regular local flights to the Phalaborwa Kruger Park Gateway Airport is easily accessible from Bateleur.

Phalaborwa Gate:
Take the N1 toll-road to Polokwane (Pietersburg). Forty kilometres (24 miles) before Polokwane turn right onto the R71 and head for Tzaneen. After Tzaneen head towards Phalaborwa and the gate. Allow between 6 to 7 hours for the trip to the gate. Bateleur Bush Camp is 100 kilometres (62 miles) away from the gate. Allow about 4 hours for the drive to the bush camp, however, if you want to enjoy the game viewing possibilities, give yourself more time at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Climate:
Kruger National Park in South Africa is in a summer rainfall area. Such precipitation is usually convectional and can result in heavy downpours. The summer months (October to April) are hot and often balmy. Winters are warm and mild, although visitors going on night-drives will require warm clothing.

Flora attractions that can be found in this region include the Natal Mahogany, Brack Thorn Mustard Tree, Sausage Tree, Apple Leaf, mixed Bushwillow, Silver Cluster Leaf, Round Leafed Teak, Buffalothorn, Sycamore Fig, Magic Guarri, Marula, Jackalberry, Leadwood, Mopane, Wilddate Palm, Weeping Boer Bean, Reeds and Mixed Acacias.
